Silver & Gold Ministry

is an outreach into our community to the elderly, homebound and sick. Our goal is to exhibit the love of Christ through our words and actions. We want to encourage and provide practical assistance thereby reminding them that God loves them and sent us to remind them He has not forgotten them. There are many ways to serve in the ministry. Silver & Gold is the umbrella ministry for Crochet, Petal Pushers, Magnolia Ball, and Sunday Worship and weekly Bible Studies held at assisted living centers. Anyone desiring to serve the elderly in our church or community through Johnson Ferry will be required to complete our Safe Harbor abuse prevention form.

Petal Pushers

meet during the school year to arrange flowers, and then deliver the flowers to a Nursing Home or Assisted Living. When delivering the flowers, they visit briefly and offer to pray with the resident. After the visit, the resident has a reminder of God’s love through the beauty of the flower.   This group meets twice a month on the 2nd & 4th Mondays from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.  The winter/spring session ends May 21, 2012, and resumes September 10, 2012.

One-to-One Visitation

offers the unique opportunity to get to know someone on a more intimate level. Our volunteers, as part of our Helping Hands Ministry, arrange their visits to fit their schedules. Visits can be just a short talk or walk, trip to the store or out to lunch. On weeks that a visit isn’t possible, a phone call or postcard serves a reminder that someone cares.

Widows Mite

Also a part of our Helping Hands Ministry, serves our widows in our church by providing assistance with light home repairs and other needs.

Second Wind Dreams

is the art of discovering a wish or dream of the elderly and helping make it a reality. Some of the dreams we have woven include taking someone to her 68th High School reunion, going to see her favorite basket ball player, Michael Jordan, play, a shopping spree at Rich’s, a drive into the mountains to enjoy the colorful autumn leaves. Anyone can be a dream weaver, just listen. Our "dreams" are presented at the annual Magnolia Ball. With the help of the 2nd Wind Dreams Non Profit Organization, we can make that dream come true.

Hooked on Crochet

meets every Wednesday evening during the school year to make lap robes to be distributed to local nursing homes, baby blankets to take on mission trips, hats and scarves for cancer patients, and other items as needed.  We have loving and super patient teachers to instruct and encourage. Beginners are welcome!  The morning crochet group meets year around (even in the summer) on the first and third Wednesdays of the month in the Bride's Room. This group also makes "favors" for our Magnolia Ball guests.

Magnolia Ball

is a highlight of the year when the Johnson Ferry Jazz Ensemble and vocalists play and sing tunes from the “Big Band” era.  Wheelchairs and walkers don’t slow us down as we dance and twirl on the dance floor. Memories of yester-year’s music, sound of laughter and tears of joy surrounded with magnolias and candlelight make this an unforgettable experience for everyone who attends. Refreshments are served. Our next Ball will be held Sunday, October 7, 2012. No ticket necessary; this event is free for our guests; an rsvp is appreciated.

Assisted Living Worship and Bible Studies

JF volunteers provide weekly worship at Sunrise East Cobb, Manor Care, and Savannah Court; Atria service is the second and fourth Sunday each month. To give the opportunity for someone to worship or help them rekindle their light or even come to know Christ for the first time will have effects that will last for eternity. It is not uncommon to see an Alzheimer patient sing every word of their favorite hymn, or tapping foot of the stroke victim. Teachers, encouragers, pianists, song leaders are always needed for Sunday Worship Services and weekday Bible Studies. Weekly Bible studies are provided at Elmcroft of Roswell on Thursday evenings; Arbor Terrace East Cobb on Thursday afternoon; and Sunrise East Cobb on Wednesday evenings.

Adopt a Granny

Every December a Christmas tree is decorated with names of individuals from local nursing homes who have little or no family support, and North Georgia retired pastors or their widows. The tree is located on the 2nd floor reception area. Gift suggestions are on each card for easy shopping. Instructions and driving directions are provided. Packages are delivered by the purchasers or a group of "delivery elves."  You can select a name from the tree December 2-16, 2012.
