Counseling Ministry

Whether happening to you or to one you care about, challenges, crisis, and conflicts pervade everyday life in this fallen world.  Our Counseling Ministry provides resources and services to those in our church and community with the hope and healing possible through Christ.

  • The marriage you thought would end "happily ever after" is just going to end.
  • Your sister-in-law is on the verge of bankruptcy.
  • Your youngest son isn't doing well in school - learning disability? .... or addiction?
  • Your neighbor's husband committed suicide - now she's asking you questions about heaven.
  • A coworker admits he has feelings towards members of the same sex - but wants those thoughts to go away.

Life Issues

All of us encounter issues with life. While some of these issues naturally occur in the course of the day, many are beyond a normal level of challenge and often difficult to endure. Being educated on these issues is a positive step in processing these challenges.

Check back with us frequently as we grow this section of our site to include helpful information about Life Issues. You'll find information provided by our network counselors, printable resources, viewable videos, links to helpful web sites and contact information for local professional counselors.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a confidential, Christian care-giving ministry offering one-on-one care to individuals experiencing a variety of needs and difficulties such as separation or divorce, terminal illness, bereavement, job crisis, loneliness or depression, hospitalization, spiritual crisis, and prodigal children.  Stephen Ministers are trained laypeople who are available for listening and providing support through your time of difficulty.

Support Groups

The Johnson Ferry Counseling Ministry has a variety of support groups available.  Drawing strength from others who have experienced and conquered specific challenges is a healthy approach to take.  Isolation is the natural, yet harmful reaction to emotional and spiritual pain.  We encourage you to reach out to others and experience Christ's love and compassion through our support groups.

Counseling Referrals

We maintain relationships with a select group of professional mental health care providers throughout the Atlanta area. Providers are carefully screened for their quality of care, professional skills, and genuine Christian faith. Our network includes professional counselors, pastoral counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists. Our familiarity with each professional's counseling style and areas of expertise enable us to refer you to a professional best suited to meet your specific needs. Each life issues page has a list of counselors who have expertise in treating that particular issue. If there is a page that matches your struggle, you can find a list of counselors we would recommend. If you need someone to recommend a counselor, contact the Counseling Ministry office.

Cost of Services

For those local to Johnson Ferry, there is no charge for an assessment. When a referral is made to a professional counselor in the community, any fees for services are the responsibility of the person seeking care. If a genuine financial need exists, there may be a number of ways to assist with managing costs. This can be discussed with your counselor during the assessment process.

If you would like to meet with someone to discuss the challenges you are facing, one of the Pastors in the Pastoral Care Ministry can meet with you for a single session to help recommend resources and counselors who might be helpful to you. To schedule an appointment, call 770-794-2978. These Pastors do not provide ongoing counseling, but can direct you to Christian counselors in the community who will work with you.
