Worship through Dance

Worship Through Dance is a unique opportunity for children to learn the discipline of dance in a Christ-centered atmosphere. Tennyson Carden has been offering classes for the past seven years, catering to different skill levels in Creative Movement, Classical Ballet, and Jazz. Tennyson's heartbeat is for ballet to be taught in an atmosphere that is glorifying to God as well as providing young hearts a place where they can find their acceptance in Him.  Praise and worship skills and techniques are also incorporated into each class.

Class Offerings

  • Creative Movement (3 year olds)

This fast paced class is intended to introduce young children to dance using a variety of techniques. Each class is designed around a Bible theme. Children will be taught to follow instructions, move as part of a group, and to explore their individual creativity while doing all to the glory of God. Instruction will seek to develop gross and fine motor skills and self-awareness.

  • Pre-Ballet (4 year olds)

This fast paced class introduces children specifically to the discipline of ballet as the foundation of dance as worship is laod. The basic ballet positions and barre exercises are introduced at this level. Each class is designed around a Bible theme.  Children will be taught to follow instructions, move as part of a group, and to explore their individual creativity while doing all to the glory of God.  Instruction will seek to develop gross and fine motor skills and self-awareness. This is wonderful preparation for later dance training or group sports.

  • Ballet I (K-1st Grade)

This class teaches children basic ballet position, movement, and technique.  Posture and discipline are emphasized in a positive, non-threatening atmosphere.  Dancers are continuously reminded of focusing their attention on worship and of their acceptance in Christ.

  • Ballet II (2nd Grade and Up)

This class is designed for dancers with some previous dance experience.  Participants should be familiar with basic ballet positions and movements.  Posture and technique are emphasized as the ballet repertoire is expanded.  Dancers are continuously reminded of focusing their attention on worship.  A non-competitive environment is encouraged as we focus on our acceptance in Christ.

  • Jazz (only for those enrolled in Ballet II or III)

This class is designed to be an extension to the Ballet II and II classes for students who are developing a strong foundation in ballet technique and are ready to explore other forms of dance as worship.  Basic jazz positions, technique and movement will be taught in a fun, upbeat and conservative fashion.  Students must participate in Ballet II or Invitational Ballet III in order to take this class.  There will also be an additional cost of $120 for this class.

  • Invitational Ballet III

This class is designed for students who demonstrate an understanding of beginning classical ballet alignment and technique and who are ready to commit to a study of intermediate ballet.  Students in this program must commit to dancing year-round (both fall and spring semesters).  If this class is an appropriate placement for your child, you will receive an invitation following your registration for the Worship Through Dance program for the Ballet II class.
